Abstract

One of the cognitive necessities and requirements of the strategic environment of the Islamic Republic of Iran is to study and understand countries such as Egypt, which are of great importance due to their geopolitical position and have undergone transformations in their relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran after the victory of the Islamic Revolution. From this perspective, the present study, using the theory of neoclassical realism, seeks to answer the main question of what factors are influential in the divergence of relations between Egypt and the Islamic Republic of Iran? The political elites of both countries, due to their different approaches in the field of foreign policy, which have been influenced by the internal and external environment, have caused the continuation of the gloom in relations between the two countries. The results of the study, with a descriptive-analytical approach, show that firstly, the factors that arise from the internal environment of the two countries will have no result other than an identity-ideological conflict. Secondly, Egypt, by strengthening the Arab-Western bond that has continued due to economic dependence, is in conflict with the regional policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Thirdly, regional stability and security and the exploitation of its opportunities by Egypt and the Islamic Republic of Iran require mutual understanding and a pragmatic approach towards each other.
