Strategies for improving the geopolitical position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the South Caucasus

Abstract

The improvement of the country's position and status in the region undoubtedly depends on the extent and power of its national power compared to other countries. Therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran, while attracting neighboring countries and influencing regional systems, must seek to improve its geopolitical position. Therefore, the present article was formed to answer the question of what are the strategies for improving the geopolitical position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the South Caucasus?
In this research, the method of descriptive-analytical research with a qualitative approach and the type of applied-developmental research are used. In order to analyze the data collected, while drawing from library studies, by using documentary analysis and elite analysis methods, the main factors affecting the strategies for improving the geopolitical position of the Islamic Republic of Iran were identified. Iran in the South Caucasus region was extracted and 5 main goals were identified and then the roles of the four strategic factors (weakness, strength, opportunity and threat) were confirmed by the expert community and strategies were extracted through the S.W.O.T technique and prioritized using the quantitative matrix method of strategic planning, which, according to the results of the research, are the defense and security superiority, the development of economic capacities, the use of geopolitical opportunities in the region, the development of civilizational-cultural values in the South Caucasus region, respectively, as strategies for promoting the geopolitical position of the Republic of Iran in the South Caucasus region.
