Abstract

Using the potential of neighbors plays an important role in the economic development of states. Successful countries in the field of economic development take full advantage of this potential. The situation that governs the economy of Southeast Asia today is a good indication of this importance. In the meantime, our country should also be able to take full advantage of the potential of its neighbors. Especially since Iran has many neighbors in its water and land borders. Iraq is one of the neighbors that has had good relations with Iran for more than two decades after the fall of Saddam. Considering the security and economic challenges it is facing, this country has not yet been able to play an independent role in the production of goods and provision of many services, and for this reason, it meets its needs from other countries. In this regard, the question that is emphasized in this research is as follows: What opportunities and challenges are facing the Islamic Republic of Iran in relation to Iraq in the path of economic development? This article tries to show that while Iran has significant economic opportunities in Iraq, the existence of some political and security challenges and obstacles has practically prevented Iran from benefiting from economic relations in Iraq. In order to analyze the hypothesis of this research, we will use the conceptual framework of economic diplomacy. The method of this research will be both descriptive-analytical and library data collection method.
